ARTIST STATEMENT

I deconstruct my work with the same criteria that I utilize to evaluate most contemporary art…  its standing based on a relation to the record of art history, its currency, and its intent.

In terms of lineage, my work certainly crosses different visual disciplines, and can attribute mentorship from the textured and sculptural qualities inherent in the paintings of Jean Dubuffet. Its abstract minimalism can be traced to other modern masters such as Frank Stella, Robert Ryman, and the reductive paintings of Ad Reinhardt, and its construct can claim roots in the Italian artists of the Arte Povera movement.

In terms of the works currency and intent, it is my intent and hope that my work be perceived as being about the truth. I would gauge my art to be most successful when it influences people to think, reflect, and meditate about the truth, about themselves, and their lives, and how to evolve themselves as human beings.
